Suzuki V-Strom 650/XT Oil Change Guide

HOW TO VIDEO

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • 10W-40 engine oil
  • Oil filter
  • Crush washer
  • 17mm wrench or socket and ratchet
  • 4mm Allen wrench or socket
  • Drain pan
  • 67mm oil filter wrench (09915-40620)
  • Rags
  • Funnel
  • High-flash solvent (like brake cleaner, acetone, or paint thinner)

Oil Change Instructions

  1. Start the motorcycle and bring it up to operating temperature. This is best done by taking the bike for a quick ride.
  2. Situate the motorcycle so that it is vertical after warming up the engine.
  3. Gather your materials, including safety glasses and your rubber gloves.
  4. Remove the under cowling by removing the  Allen screws on the left and right side.(XT models only)
  5. Place your drain pan under the oil drain bolt.
  6. Remove the engine oil drain bolt to drain the oil.
  7. Replace the drain bolt washer with a new one and tighten the drain bolt.
  8. Remove the oil filter with your oil filter wrench.
  9. Replace the oil filter with a new one after applying oil to the new filter gasket.
  10. With a high-flash point solvent, clean the oil filter guard and surrounding area of any excess oil.
  11. Tighten the filter with your oil filter wrench.
