KAWASAKI NINJA 650R OIL CHANGE GUIDE

If you are planning on changing the oil in your Kawasaki Ninja 650R, we've got all of the information you need to get the job done. Below we've got instructions for your Kawasaki Ninja oil change, all of the service information you'll need, fun facts, and a video to walk you through your Ninja oil change step-by-step.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • 10W-40 engine oil
  • Oil filter
  • Crush washer
  • 17mm wrench or socket and ratchet
  • Drain pan
  • 65mm oil filter wrench (57001-1249)
  • 4mm Allen wrench or socket
  • Rags
  • Funnel
  • High-flash solvent (like brake cleaner, acetone, or paint thinner)

Engine Oil and Filter Change for 2006 - 2011

  1. Situate the motorcycle so that it is vertical after warming up the engine.
  2. Gather your materials, including safety glasses and your rubber gloves.
  3. Remove the left middle fairing to gain access to the drain plug.
  4. Place your drain pan under the oil drain bolt.
  5. Remove the engine oil drain bolt to drain the oil.
  6. Replace the drain bolt washer with a new one and tighten the drain bolt.
  7. Remove the right middle fairing to gain access to the engine oil filter.
  8. Remove the oil filter with your oil filter wrench.
  9. Replace the oil filter with a new one after applying oil to the new filter gasket.
  10. Tighten the filter with your oil filter wrench.
  11. Pour in the 10W-40 motor oil. See our Service Information below to see how much your Ninja needs.
  12. Reinstall the removed fairings.

Engine Oil and Filter Change for 2012 - 2022

  1. Situate the motorcycle so that it is vertical after warming up the engine.
  2. Gather your materials, including safety glasses and your rubber gloves.
  3. Place your drain pan under the oil drain bolt.
  4. Remove the engine oil drain plug to drain the oil.
  5. Replace the drain bolt washer with a new one and tighten the drain bolt.
  6. Remove the right middle fairing to gain access to the engine oil filter.
  7. Remove the oil filter with your oil filter wrench.
  8. Apply a thin coat of oil to the filter O-ring before filter installation.

  10. Install right middle fairing.

  • Oil change interval: 3,000-7,000 miles depending on riding conditions
