Toyota Corolla L4 1.8L Oil Change Guide

If you are planning on changing the oil in your Toyota Corolla, we've got all of the information you need to get the job done. Below we've got instructions for your Toyota oil change, all of the service information you'll need, fun facts, and a video to walk you through your Corolla oil change step-by-step.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • 0W-20 engine oil
  • Oil filter
  • Crush washer
  • 14mm wrench or 14mm socket and ratchet, 3/8 extension
  • Drain pan
  • 64mm oil filter wrench or Toyota filter wrench (39564-10944)
  • Rags
  • Funnel
  • High-flash solvent (like brake cleaner, acetone, or paint thinner)

Engine Oil and Filter Change

  1. After warming up the engine safely situate the vehicle so that you can access the drain bolt and oil filter housing.
  2. Place the drain pan beneath the engine and use the 14mm wrench or socket to remove the drain bolt and let drain.
  3. Replace the drain bolt washer with a new one and tighten the drain bolt.
  4. Remove the oil filter with the oil filter wrench.
  5. Add a small amount of oil to the new filter making sure to lubricate the o-ring.
  6. Pour in the specified amount of oil and then start the engine to circulate and build oil pressure, then shut off.
  7. Check for any leaks around the oil filter and drain bolt.
  8. Check engine oil level and add oil if necessary.

Maintenance required reset for vehicles with a monochrome display:

  1. Vehicles without a smart key system: Turn the engine switch to the “LOCK” position with the trip meter A reading shown.
  2. Vehicles with a smart key system: Turn the engine switch off with the trip meter A reading shown.
  3. While pressing the display change button turn the engine switch to the “ON” position (do not start the engine because reset mode will be canceled).
  4. Continue to press and hold the button until the trip meter displays “000000”


Maintenance required reset for vehicles with a color display:

  1. While the engine is running, switch the multi-information display to the “Settings” screen.
  2. Select “Reset Scheduled Maint. Data” on the “Settings” screen.
  3. Select “Yes” when “Reset Data?” is displayed on the multi-information display. “The Data Has Been Reset” will be displayed when the reset procedure has been completed.
